Phuket, Thailand the Hollywood of Southeast Asia
Phuket, Thailand, has been a popular location for filmmakers mainly due to its stunning natural beauty, diverse landscapes, and vibrant culture. Phuket island’s picturesque beaches, lush tropical forests, and vibrant urban scenes offer a wide range of filming possibilities, making it an attractive destination for both local and international film productions. Additionally, Thailand’s relatively affordable production costs and accommodating film regulations have further contributed to its appeal as a filming location.
Movies filmed in Phuket:
“The Man with the Golden Gun” (1974): Part of the James Bond film series, this movie featured iconic actor Roger Moore as James Bond and showcased Phang Nga Bay, near Phuket, which is famous for its distinctive limestone cliffs emerging from emerald-green waters.

“Kickboxer: Retaliation” (2018): Part of the Kickboxer film series, this action movie was partially filmed in various locations across Thailand, including Phuket, to capture its dynamic and visually appealing environments.

Is a Phang Nga airport needed?
The Joint Public and Private Sector Consultative Committee (JPPSCC) in the Andaman provinces has urged Airports of Thailand (AoT) to continue its feasibility study on Phang Nga Airport.
A meeting of the JPPSCC in the Andaman provinces of Krabi, Trang, Phangnga, Phuket, Ranong and Satun was held recently to continue
talks with Phuket Airport after the AoT decided to defer the project.
Phuket airport has reached its full capacity of 14 million passengers a year. If it is expanded, it can handle up to 17 million, still below its peak period when it handled about 18 million passengers prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Imagine when the economy picks up and when it is high season, how crowded Phuket airport will be?

Which Weather Apps Are Reliable In Phuket In 2023?
One of the most frequently asked questions we receive from guests and travellers to Phuket Thailand is:
What Is The Weather Like Right Now?
It’s a fair question to ask. If you are planning a holiday in Phuket you want to know what weather to expect as this will impact the activities that you will be doing while in Phuket. After 16 years living in Phuket I have found Phuket’s weather is quite fickle.
Very rarely are any of the Apps right in Phuket. But here are a few things I use to read the weather and predict what we should expect:
1. Windy.com
Windy.com is my go-to web platform for seeing the predicted weather and wind conditions for Phuket. Specifically, I look at the wind report. As I have a premium subscription, I can see the wind prediction for the next 9 days.
Generally speaking, a low wind condition (under 12 knots) will allow for calmer sea conditions, a lower possibility of rain and the potential for a good day on the sea. The great part about windy is that it is color coded.
If you see blue wind, this means we are expecting good sea conditions and low wind conditions. If you see light green, this means slightly increased wind, but still good conditions.
As you move from light green to dark green and then yellow this is an indicator of a high wind condition, potentially rough seas and potentially more rain.
2. TMD Radar
The only accurate predictor of rain in Phuket is the live radar. The TMD Radar is the best radar to see this as it shows live radar images up to 15 minutes ago. We use this in the morning of our tours to predict weather we are expecting rain on the tour.
It’s important to note that the wind condition will affect the speed that rain comes towards to Phuket and the direction it is moving. So I combine the Windy.com readings I get with the live radar.
3. AccuWeather
The AccuWeather website provides forecasts on wind, rain and conditions for up to 1 month. While it is rarely accurate I have found that it is closer to accurate than any other full service weather prediction app or system.
Now I know this all sounds confusing, so if you would prefer us to interpret the weather for you using our experience here in Phuket feel free to contact us any time.
What are the Best Boat Tours for Families
Phuket, Thailand is a very popular holiday destination for many different types of tourists. From the young adults looking to party hard late into the night in Patong. Luxury travelers looking to stay in a stunning villa on the hills of Phuket overlooking the Andaman Sea. Backpackers and students on a year out traveling, and families looking for a mix of stunning tropical beaches, great food and family-friendly activities.
Today we are looking at what are the best 5 Star Marine Phuket boat tours for families.
Just to clarify our definition of families. Yes, of course, we know that a “family” could be many different things, but for this blog and video, we are defining families as anyone with children under 12.
So, let’s look at what are the best private boat Tours for Families.
When looking for an easy, close-by island day trip that is good for families, snorkelling, and relaxing on the beach you can’t beat the Khai Islands.
These three islands are very close together and are accessible in only 15 to 20 minutes from the 5 Star Marine pier at Boat Lagoon.
The Khai Islands are made up of 3 separate islands:
- Khai Nai
- Khai Nau
- Khai Nok
These Islands are especially good for beginner snorkellers as they offer the opportunity to snorkel straight off the beach and experience a plethora of tropical fish.
Each of the three Islands offers something slightly different for you to experience
Want to know more about Khai islands Click here
This stunning Phuket island has 2 main beaches (Long Beach and Banana Beach), where you can find a handful of restaurants, enjoy a few different snorkelling spots or just relax on its sandy beaches.
Coral Island, is also known locally as Koh He, is an easy and family-friendly day-trip destination from Phuket and you can combine it with other tours as well. More of that later. It will take around 30 – 40 mins to get to Coral Island from the 5 Star Marine Pier.
The beach at Coral Island is stunning, just what you are looking for when you think of a tropical paradise beach. The white sands and the clear tropical water, make this island truly awesome. The snorkeling right off the beach is possibly some of the best in Phuket. It’s so easy just to walk from the beach right into some stunning reefs.
You can climb up over a small hill and get to a stunning viewpoint and it’s a very easy path, and you might even get to see the islands mascots the Hornbill. There are many flying all over the island and sometimes even into the restaurant.
At Coral Island, you can also rent a canoe or banana boat as well as parasailing.
You can also combine the Coral Island tour with an afternoon stop at Mai Ton on the way back to try your luck spotting the dolphins there. See below:
Learn more about Coral Island Click here
You can add this trip to either of the tours above and it can be tailored to your requirements.
Nothing compares to seeing dolphins in their natural habitat, and getting the opportunity to witness them in the wild is a spectacular experience.
Of, course we can never guarantee that you will see the dolphins but we do know the best times to go and see if they are there.
Maiton Island is not just a place to see Phuket dolphins you can also go snorkeling there as well. There is nothing like jumping off a boat for young kids to make them feel alive, and to be fair, adults should do it to. Once you have jumped off the underwater world comes to life.

What is K-pop?
I know some of you are asking what is K-Pop? Well:
K-pop, short for Korean pop music and has a rich and fascinating history that dates back several decades. Origins can be traced back to the early 1990s when Korean music began to adopt Western influences and experiment with new sounds. However, it wasn’t until the late 1990s and early 2000s that K-pop started gaining significant popularity both domestically and internationally.
In the early 2000s, K-pop expanded its reach beyond South Korea, primarily targeting neighboring Asian countries. However, it was in the late 2000s and early 2010s that K-pop truly exploded onto the global stage. The debut of groups like Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, Big Bang, and 2NE1 captivated audiences with their polished performances, addictive music, and innovative music videos.
Since then, K-pop has continued to dominate charts and captivate audiences worldwide. Groups like BTS, EXO, BLACKPINK, and TWICE have achieved unprecedented success, breaking records and collaborating with renowned international artists.
Who is Suga?
South Korean rapper, song writer and record producer Min Yoon-Gi, known by millions of fans around the world as Suga from BTS was out on a 5 Star Marine Private Boat with guide Jimmy.

Which is best? Phuket Private Speedboat Tours, Group Tour or Yacht Charter
Phuket Private Speedboat Tour vs Group Tour Vs Yacht Charter
A tour of the many islands around Phuket is always a brilliant idea. No matter if you choose a private boat tour, or Group boat tour or a Yacht charter.
All three options will enable you to visit Phuket’s spectacular destinations and have new and unique experiences.
But what is the difference and which one is best for you?
Each of the three options offers unique advantages. We will delve into the key differences between a Phuket Private Tour, a group Tour, and a Yacht Charter.
Phuket Private Speedboat Tours
A Phuket private speedboat tour offers a more personalized and exclusive experience. On a Phuket private tour, the itinerary is customisable, and we can prepare a tailor-made tour just for you. So, what are some of the other benefits of a Phuket private speedboat tour?
Flexibility and Customization: Private tours allow you to tailor the experience according to your preferences. You have the freedom to choose the destinations, duration, and activities that interest you the most. The tour can be customized to match your specific needs, making it ideal for those seeking a unique and personalized adventure.
Privacy and Intimacy: You have the luxury of privacy and exclusivity. You can enjoy the company of your own group of friends or family without the presence of strangers.
Enhanced Interactions with Guides: Private tours often provide more one-on-one time with the guides. This allows for deeper conversations, personalized attention, and the opportunity to ask specific questions. The guide can focus on your group’s interests, making the experience more informative and engaging.
Flexibility in Timing: Unlike Phuket group tours, Phuket private tours offer more flexibility in terms of departure time and duration. You have the freedom to choose the timing that suits you best, allowing for a relaxed and stress-free experience.
Phuket Group Tours
A Phuket group speedboat tour involves joining a larger group of individuals and heading out altogether, generally on a set route. So, what are some of the benefits of a group speedboat tour:
Affordability: Group tours often tend to be more budget-friendly as the costs are divided among many participants.
Social Interaction: Group tours provide an excellent opportunity to meet and interact with fellow travelers who share a similar passion for exploration.
Pre-planned Itinerary: Group tours usually have a pre-determined itinerary, ensuring that you cover the most popular sights and attractions.
Phuket Yacht Charter
A Phuket yacht charter from one of the many Phuket marinas offers a luxurious and exclusive way to explore the islands around Phuket. Here are some characteristics and benefits of a yacht charter:
Size and Comfort: Yachts are typically larger vessels equipped with spacious interiors, comfortable cabins, and ample deck space.
They offer a more relaxed and opulent experience and enjoy the panoramic views of Phuket and the surrounding islands.
Privacy and Exclusivity: Phuket Yacht charters offer complete privacy, as the vessel is only for you and your chosen companions.
Customization and Freedom: Phuket Yacht charters provide the ultimate freedom to create your own itinerary and tailor the experience to your preferences. You can choose your destinations, anchor in secluded bays, engage in water sports, or simply relax onboard.
But – please note that some Phuket Yacht Charters do follow a set route and depending on the size of the yacht you may not be able to get to all the destinations.
Luxury and Amenities: Yachts are renowned for their luxurious amenities, which may include Jacuzzis, spacious sun decks, gourmet dining options, entertainment systems, and water toys. The onboard crew takes care of all the details, ensuring that your every need is met, from gourmet meals to personalized service.
So, there are your three options for spending a day exploring all that Phuket has to offer. Of course, 5 Star Marine offers Phuket Private tours and the reason for this is very simple. When I first came to Phuket I wanted to go out and explore the islands around Phuket. Yacht charter was very expensive and I was not able to really explore the islands as I wanted, as the yachts could not get too close to some of the places that I wanted to visit.
I also went on some group tours and while many of these were great fun, I didn’t like to be restricted to where I went or how long I spent at one place, and personally for me I didn’t want to be on a boat with lots of strangers, and so after doing both of these around Phuket the concept of Phuket Private tours came up and 5 Star Marine was born.
All three options are amazing and it’s up to you to choose which one suits you best, I know which one I would pick.

A tour group apologised after causing harm to Thai marine life
The serene waters of Ao La on Koh Racha Yai, situated south of Phuket, were recently embroiled in controversy when tourists from a tour company, engaged in activities harmful to marine life and environment. They posed for photos with seemingly innocent starfish in hand and ventured onto delicate coral reefs, drawing the ire of locals.
They have said sorry for their actions but it does look like there will be a big fine and the possibility of a prison sentence. PLEASE not touch the marine life. Just take pictures and leave only footprints in the sand.

Best Restaurant In Phang Nga Bay
Where is The Best Thai Restaurant in Phang Nga Bay?
Thai food is renowned worldwide for its irresistible flavors, aromatic spices, and vibrant presentation. The cuisine of Thailand has captured the hearts and palates of people from all corners of the globe.
Thai food is known for its perfect balance of flavors. Thai dishes masterfully combine sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and spicy elements, creating a symphony of tastes that tantalize the taste buds. Whether it’s the tangy lemongrass in Tom Yum soup, the fiery kick of chili peppers in Som Tum, or the creamy coconut milk in Massaman curry, Thai food delights in its ability to create a harmonious blend of contrasting flavors in each dish.
Baan Rim Nam Koh Yao Yai
When you are out on a 5 Star Marine Tour in Phang Nga Bay, we would highly recommend the amazing Baan Rim Nam, on Koh Yao Yai.
Baan Rim Nam restaurant is a must-visit and not only because the food is very tasty, but also because of the fantastic location. As you sit on the wooden deck you overlook the tranquil bay and right in front
of you, see the floating shacks of the local fishermen, who bring their catch daily to the restaurant.
There are magnificent views from Baan Rim Nam. The awesome staff welcomes people all year round as t is such a popular restaurant. The service is very professional and polite and you really feel like you are at a 5-star restaurant, but still with that local restaurant feel.
There is no surprise there are so many good reviews online for Baan Rim Nam. Immediately as we arrived, we were met with a warm welcome and sat with a stunning view of the bay. The Thai food was to die for. Massive fresh tiger prawns from local fishermen prepared perfectly. Freshly fried fish, crispy and light, and one of my personal favorites is the raw prawn dish called locally – “Kung chae nampla”.
This is a Thai salad made from fresh raw shrimp soaked in Thai fish sauce and served with chunks of gourd, cloves of garlic, chilies, and spicy sauce.
NOTES – The spicy sauce is VERY spicy, and the gourds are VERY bitter
Their signature dessert was a total surprise. You need to watch the video to find out what this is.
Thai Food
Thai food is more than just a meal—it’s a social and cultural experience. In Thailand, meals are often shared, and dining is seen as a communal activity. The warm hospitality, lively atmosphere, and conviviality associated with Thai dining enhance the overall enjoyment of the food. Sharing a variety of dishes with loved ones, engaging in conversation, and experiencing the unique Thai dining culture
add an extra layer of satisfaction to the culinary experience.
Thai food’s irresistible flavors, fresh ingredients, diverse textures, versatility, exquisite presentation, and social aspect all contribute to its exceptional reputation. The balance of flavors, commitment to freshness, and attention to detail make Thai cuisine an absolute delight for the senses.
Whether you’re indulging in a spicy locally caught tiger prawn curry or savoring a tangy salad, the food at Baan Rim Nam, on Koh Yao Yai offers you a culinary journey that is unparalleled, making it truly deserving of its recommendations by the 5 Star Marine Phuket team as the Best Restaurant in Phang Nga Bay.
